My restoration of faith in the American people (or United States citizens so that Chando won’t have a coronary) was inevitably tainted by the closed-mindedness, arrogance, and ass-backwards thinking of the slight majority of Californians who voted in favor of Proposition 8 — which according to them is not a discriminatory measure because the equal rights of gays are being recognized by a “separate but equal??? alternative: civil unions.
Ahem. Separate is not equal.
I repeat: Separate is NOT equal. (Brown v. Board of Education. Anyone? Anyone?)
The proponents of Prop. 8 claim that marriage, as defined by religion, society, and biology, is a societal construct necessary for procreation and consequently cannot be redefined to include same-sex (in other words, non-procreating) couples. But marriage is now a legal institution. It is a fundamental right between two consenting adults. Under the law, having two separate institutions to describe this legal relationship is discrimination.
I am terribly disappointed and quite offended by this outcome. How dare you presume you have the right to dictate how others live their lives? How dare you tell someone who they can or can’t marry or even if they can marry at all? How dare you deny your fellow human beings their civil rights?
I hope that what happened on Tuesday was nothing more than a small setback. That those who have an irrational and ungrounded fear in same-sex marriage will soon see the light. Let us only take steps forward from now on.

Yep, pretty disappointing! Institutionalized discrimination should only be seen in history museums not in these times.
Este martes pasado el país se vistió de muchos colores, nunca se había visto tan lindo. Qué lástima que California decidió vestirse con un traje nefasto.
Pero si reconocemos que pudimos tener la fuerza para hacer cambio en todo un país, creo que podemos cambiar un estado.
Ya hay muchos que están dispuestos a encarar este reto.
Como pueden ver, Markos ya se enlistó. Y no es por nada pero este muchacho tiene tela de donde cortar.

Me puse mucho a pensar sobre este asunto, el día después que “El Negrito” ganó la presidencía (I mean that with the most sincere humorous respect).
También, he ecuchado lo que ha dicho Tom Leykis, en su programa de radio. TODOS los residentes de este país debemos tener los mismos derechos y libertades. Si alguien ha quebrado la ley, y se le ha quitado ciertos derechos, pués así debe de ser. PERO…cuando residentes de este gran estado, que ayudo a Obama ganar, decide que es tiempo de cambio para el país, pero no para el estado, me decepciona mucho.
No sé como está el ambiente aya en el norte. Pero aquí está pesado. Estamos (LASPD, LAPD, Sheriffs, CHP, & District Crisis Personnel) en alerta táctica por las manifestaciones. En mi escuela, estuvo muy tenso. Tenemos muchos estudiantes gay, aquí. PERO, por la locación de nuestra escuela, también tenemos muchos mormones, judíos y demás religiosos.
EL problema es que LA MAYORIA de esta gente, que votó Sí en la proposición 8, lo hizo “a escondidas.” No tienen reservación de tener amistades ó conocidos gay. Pero no están dispuestos a permitirles el mismo derecho de casarse legalmente. ¡Qué lástima!
