Las últimas noticias sobre Chando desde Ruanda

Hello friends and family,

As many of you already know, Chando made it safe and sound to Rwanda after a very long journey that included two overnight flights and a one night layover in London. Although she has internet access near her house, they do not have much time to use the computer so we have only recieved limited amounts of information. Firstly, we would like to thank you for your contributions, both received and pledged, towards this journey. Alexandra would not have been able to go had it not been for your generosity.

There are 16 students from Atlantic College. I believe they come from 14 to 16 different countries. So it is a really mixed group. They are being hosted by the Love to Love Ministries who have helped them with their housing, food and worked with Innocent to organize their schedule. So far Chando says she was on Rwandan Radio, met a hip-hop star, went to a church, went clubbing and began their work schedule. Every morning they will be working for an organization called “Hope and Homes for Children”. Chando says they realized there is a lot of work to be done. First they are going to be building a field. Some of the afternoon work will be the sports programs at Kigali Infant School, Calcutta Children’s Home, Kagalama Senior Secondary, Gisimba Memorial Orphanage and Eden Garden School and working with Help the Youth Live and SOS Village. And please don’t ask me what those last two are because I have no idea either. So it sounds like Chando is going to be
very busy.

Apparently there is no kitchen where they are staying so they are using a kitchen facility two minutes from the house. They have to do all the shopping and cooking. It sounds like they are eating a lot of fruit. One description of her day’s meal was pineapple, banana, coffee and bread for breakfast, rice with banana and avocado for dinner and pineapple and papaya for desert.

I’ll keep you posted as we get new information. We hope many of you will be able to join us in July to welcome back Chando and hear all about her adventures in Rwanda. We will keep you posted on possible dates.
