Community Coalition’s COO Joanne Kim speaks to a British primetime news channel about the connection between the 1992 Civil Unrest in South Los Angeles and the Tottenham Riot of August 2011.

She explains how the root causes of civil unrest are social and economic. It’s not an issue of a generation of young people who are not “listening” but it’s an issue of poverty and inequity in society.

South Los Angeles has rebuilt itself from the ashes of the ’92 Civil Unrest thanks to residents coming together with community groups to transform their neighborhoods. We hope to see London do the same with the support of its community, political leaders, and community groups.
